Temporary Closure

The Museum of the Great War is closed to the public from 17 August to 4 September 2026 (inclusive). During this time, our teams are working behind the scenes on the museum’s collections and preparing for the new season. We look forward to welcoming you back on 5 September for the 1914–1918 Historical Re-enactment Weekend.

The Great War Museum’s collection is made up of thousands of objects, works and documents visible in the permanent exhibition or carefully kept in storage. It is unique in its exhaustiveness, in terms both of the types of objects and of the nationalities represented.

From posters to soldiers’ and officers’ uniforms; drawings to trench craftwork; weapons to everyday items; letters to photographs, the Museum has one of Europe’s biggest First World War collections.

Through history, ethnography, militaria and art, the collection provides visitors with a clear understanding of the conflict, from both the technical and military perspective, and the human and social perspective.
