Armband from the camouflage section
This two-colour armband, made up of a white strip over a red strip – the colours of the section – included an embroidered chameleon in metallic thread and relief. The animal represented the camouflage section of the French army, which was created officially by the Minister of War during the Great War, on 4 August 1915. Few of these armbands, a standard part of uniform, are to be found today. This one was worn by painter Georges Delaw, a friend of the French painter and engraver André Dunoyer de Segonzac.
